730 DAYS IN OFFICE: IKONO COUNCIL HELMSMAN GOES SPIRITUAL …As Councillors, Supervisors, Directors NULGE, score him high on performance //Abasianyanga Akpan On the twilights of yesterday, councilors, Supervisors, Directors, members of the Nigerian Union of Local Government Employees as well as youths churned out in their numbers to celebrate two years anniversary of Hon Nyakno Okoibu as the Executive Chairman of Ikono Local Government Area. The event which took place at th office of the council Helmsman, Ikono Local Government Secretariat, Ibiaku Ntok Okpo, witnessed a moment of celebration, toast, and appreciation to God who has sustained the leadership of the council with no record of death so far. Speaking, the Executive Chairman of Ikono Local Government Area, Hon Nyakno Okoibu said that his emergenced as the Chairman of the council was by the grace of God. He seized the opportunity to thank all the councilors, Supervisors, and Staff for their contribution so far in the administration as well as being a part of the administrative strides. According to him, ” out of the 31 Local Government Areas in Akwa Ibom State, Ikono LGA stands out as the best, stressing that it is a pragmatic contribution from the councilors to everyone.” The council helmsman appraised the Governor, His Excellency Deac Udom Emmanuel and his dear wife, Dr Martha Emmanuel for the roads and other democratic dividends they have given to Ikono, specifically, the recent accent to the bill that established College of Science and Technology, Nung Ukim. Also speaking, the wife of the Chairman, Mrs Otobong Okoibu while appraising his husband for the support she has so far enjoyed, stressed that he has been a backbone to her several empowerment programmes, grant, feeding of malnourished children and other packages. She thanked the Governor and the wife for being a father and a mother to the LGA, and assured the people that Ikono will vote Democratic Party come 2023. Mrs Okoibu described the Chairman as the David of this time. Meanwhile, the Acting Chief Press Secretary to the Chairman, Mr Rustom Alexander presented the following scorecards which the chairman has so far achieved: -flagged off maternal new born and child health week in Ikono Local Government Council. – Mrs Otobong Okoibu rescued a sickle cell anemia patient at Ibiaku Ntok okpo General Hospital. – Yearly Christmas celebration with Children – Ikono first Lady empowered expectant/ Nursing mothers. – On Wednesday 16th Feb, 2022 at Comprehensive Secondary School, Ukpom, Mrs Otobong Okoibu initiated Ikono Girls Child initiative and empowerment. – Ikono Council Helmsman gave out support for free and compulsory education. – Presentation of wrappers to Nung Ukim women. -Celebration of independent day at the Mini Stadium of Ikono Local Area. – Provision of renewable energy( Installation of solar to provide 24 hours electricity for the Local Government Council. – Creation of the first ever website in Ikono Local Government administration to ensure transparency, accountability and accessibility in governance. -Digitalization of the Council secretariat for efficient data processing, file and information management by the provisions of printers, photocopies, scanners and Wifi devices. – Organization of Ikono Sports festival. – Continuous engagement with stakeholders on security and provision of security vehicles to Ikono Division of Nigerian Police Force. -As parts of welfare, Hon Nyakno Okoibu championed the reduction of marriage cost at Marriage Registry by 50%, and as well, reduction of Housing rents at Ikono Low cost estates by 40% – Roads gradings across different wards, including Ukpom Usung Ubom Road, Ikot Akpan Ikono Ibom Road, Ndiya Usung Ikot Idaha Road, Osuk Ediene Road, Ikot Ediene Road, Aka Ekpeme Road, Okop Akama Road at Ukpom and others. – Provision of drinking water for natives. – Employment of 40 Ikono indigenes as casual staff and additional security at the health centre and Council Secretariat. – Renovated the effigy of the first Chairman of the experimental Local Government Administration in British West Africa. – Renovation of the office of the Chairman and Vice Chairman. – Furnished the offices of the executives, Legislatures and Civil Servants with provision of office tables and chairs. – Reactivated the borehole facilities at the Local Government Council Secretariat. – Reactivated the borehole facilities at the High Court Complexes. – Renovation of the immigration office at the Council Secretariat. -Enforcement of Sanitation activities. – Subsidized medical cost for indigenes at the Ikono General Hospital. – Reconnected the Hospital to the national Grid. – Reactivated the borehole at Nung Ukim. – Reactivated the borehole at Ibiaku Primary Health care centres. – Facilitated a free medical programme in the three Zones of Ikono Local Government Area. – Electrification of the offices of supervisors and special advisers at the Local Government Secretariat. – Electrification of the offices of the supervisors and special advisers at the Local Government Secretariat. – Restoration of Over two years power outage in Ikono Local Government Area. – Inauguration of Committees to oversee the smooth operations of the following markets: Urua Oboe, Ikono Urban Market, Edere Ukpom Market, Edem Oboe/ Ediene Itak Market, Edet Mbat market and Urua Naira – Ediene Usung Itu Market. – Reopening of closed motor parks and inauguration of park management committees. – Facilitated the enrollment of two thousand Ikono indigenes in trader money, market money and farmer money grant of the federal government (an exercise which is currently ongoing) – Executive Chairman of Ikono Hon Nyakno Okoibu Donates brand new Toyota Hiac bus to Ibibio Peoples Union – Championed agriculture by Flagging off planting of Coconut seedlings. – Ikono Council Boss in his spirit of humanitarian service, cleared Hospital bills for a victim of herdsmen attack. – Ikono Council Boss presents brand new Toyota Camry to the V chairman, Hon Simeon Uyanga – Witnessed and attracted construction and commissioning of 9km road networks in Ikono Local Government Area by His Excellency, Deac Udom Emmanuel. – Donated Health equipment to Ikono general Hospital -Received Award as the best performing Local Government Chairman in Nigeria Others who affirmed that Hon Okoibu’s achievement are at its peak, especially on maintenance of the synergy between the staff and the political class were: The Chairman of Nigerian Union of Local Government Employees NULGE, Hon Obop Esin, Councilor of Ediene 1 ward 10, Hon Isaiah Udoh, and the Director of finance. ©GLOBAL GONG

953,803 PVCs uncollected in Lagos, says INEC The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) in Lagos State has said 5,676,858 PVCs have been collected out of 6,630,661 received in the state from 2011 to 2021. Mr Olusegun Agbaje, INEC Resident Electoral Commissioner (REC) for Lagos state disclosed this at a Stakeholders’ Meeting on Collection of Permanent Voter Cards (PVCs) with leadership of political parties, civil society organisations, and religious leaders on Thursday in Ikeja. Agbaje, who commended all stakeholders for collaboration in the quest to build a sustainable democratic culture in Nigeria, said the commission was doing everything possible to deliver an acceptable and credible elections everyone would be proud of in 2023. “It is pertinent to note that as at Dec.2, 953,803 PVCs were yet to be collected by their owners.
